New B-GOOD tutorial video showcases photo analysis of honeybee colony size
A new B-GOOD video titled "B-GOOD Tutorial: Top Photo Analysis" demonstrates how you can estimate honeybee colony size in the BEEP app by using the top photo analysis method.
B-GOOD researcher Zeynep Ülgezen of Wageningen University and Research presents the method of measuring honeybee (Apis mellifera) colony size using the open source software ImageJ and the BEEP app.
The video shows the different steps and methods within ImageJ for estimation, such as outlining the colony with the specific tool, analysing the picture, importing the results in Excel, and filling the data into the BEEP app itself.
The photo analysis method is based on a 2018 research article published in the Ecosphere journal titled "Single and interactive effects of Varroa destructor, Nosemaspp., and imidacloprid on honey bee colonies (Apis mellifera)", the lead author of which is B-GOOD researcher Coby van Dooremalen (WUR).
